What is Roller Derby?

Roller derby is a high-energy contact sport played on roller skates, typically in an oval track. It involves two teams, each with five players on the track at a time, including a jammer and blockers. The jammer’s goal is to lap members of the opposing team to score points, while blockers try to hinder the opposing jammer’s progress.

Known for its speed, strategy, and physicality, roller derby is played predominantly by women, though there are mixed and men’s leagues as well. The sport has a vibrant subculture, celebrated for its inclusivity, community spirit, and distinctive style.
